My Story…the basis of my model of personal wellness coaching.
In my 30s began to gain weight. A chocoholic who existed on 5-6 hours sleep per night, I depended on diet cola and sugary snacks for energy. As a result, I was always tired and experienced mood swings. I also suffered from severe headaches. Buying into the Superwoman Myth was clearly taking its toll.
I tried quick fixes for weight loss and exercise but was easily sidetracked by the demands of career, parenting and running a household.
Finally, I realized that I could only change one behavior at a time and if I attempted too great a change at once, I could not sustain it.
First, I made it a priority to get 7-8 hours of sleep per night. The boost to my energy level propelled me to the next step.
Next, I chose to start walking on a regular basis. The regular activity resulted in more restful sleep and leveled out my moods.
This success led to a decision to make healthier food choices.
The combination of improvements in sleep, activity and nutrition not only led to weight loss but a decision to invest my time and energy in what matters most to me, my family. Those relationships improved and I achieved the life balance I desired.
