Growing up, we females internalize messages from our families that reinforce our roles as caregivers.  In addition, we respond to expectations that we contribute financially by choosing a career.  Additionally, we’re exposed to media images of perfect homes, meals, families, etc.  The resulting Superwoman Myth leads to women neglecting their health and wellness and lacking the time and energy to enjoy family relationships.

Do you think you don’t qualify as a superwoman because you’re not a mom.  Think again.  We are often in caregiving roles for extended family members.  Even without child-rearing responsibilities we may be buying into the Superwoman Myth.  It can be an overwhelming juggling act regardless of the specific roles we are juggling.
